PHILOSOPHY AND ORIGIN OF THE PROJECT

D.A.N.C.E. (Dance Apprentice Network aCross Europe) is an association initiated by three European dance Institutions: Charleroi/Danses (BE), Ballet Preljocaj (FR), Random Dance (UK), who have remarked through the constant evolution of the choreographic process the absence of an interdisciplinary training for young artists.

In consequence, the association has been founded to bring together diverse European Organisations addressing similar issues and to collaborate on various initiatives, most notably an interdisciplinary training Program and a European Dance Training Observatory.

D.A.N.C.E. is developing a professional insertion program based upon an intense training in both classical and contemporary dance techniques combined with an interdisciplinary approach to the art form. D.A.N.C.E. proposes a two-year course starting in September 2005, with two base groups, one in Aix-en-Provence and one in Brussels (classes and workshops will also be held outside of Brussels and Aix-en-Provence).

D.A.N.C.E. will place the accent on an interdisciplinary approach involving: dance, architecture, plastic and visual arts and theatre. The apprentices will be directly involved in the creation of interdisciplinary works, which will be presented to the public of the involved partner organizations.

The classes and workshops will be under the artistic leadership of Frédéric Flamand, William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor and Angelin Preljocaj. These internationally renowned choreographers will be assisted by their chosen team of experts in the related and diverse artistic fields and subjects covered in the program. The internationally renown interdisciplinary partners include the Institut für Mediengestaltung der Fachhochschule Mainz, CIANT Prague, Fondazione TeatroDue Parma and the Passerelles Project.
Conceived in collaboration with 29 Organisations from 17 European member states, the program has the objective to confront the apprentices with the complexities of the contemporary interdisciplinary universe, to familiarise them with the daily life of a dance company, to offer them new contacts and to broaden their horizons in the professional world.

D.A.N.C.E. is aimed for young dancers having recently completed traditional dance training and auditions will be held across Europe in Spring 2005.

D.A.N.C.E wishes to initiate a dynamic transmission of knowledge from its European network.
The programme began on September, 19 2005.

D.A.N.C.E. is sponsored by the European Union within the context of the Leonardo da Vinci programme.
